Silicon Metal Feedstock for the PV Value Chain

As the photovoltaic industry grows in response to increasing demand for renewable energy, Dow Corning (with joint ventures Hemlock Semiconductor Group) is investing in expanding polycrystalline silicon production for the solar and semiconductor industries. Dow Corning continues to invest in next-generation UMG in anticipation of future demand.

Innovative material options for the solar market

The Dow Corning Solar Solutions Group achieved a milestone in solar energy technology with solar-grade (SoG) silicon derived from metallurgical silicon. This silicon feedstock material − Dow Corning® PV 1101 SoG Silicon, which exhibits good solar cell performance characteristics when blended with traditional polysilicon feedstock − was the first commercially available feedstock produced from this technology using large-scale manufacturing processes dedicated to the photovoltaic industry.

Throughout the silicon value chain, Dow Corning provides manufacturers with options and new products to improve the cost-effectiveness and performance of photovoltaic devices.
